Last night, my sorority (Alpha Phi) hosted our annual male beauty pageant, King of Hearts. All proceeds benfited our national philanthropy – Cariac Care, and Walker Memorial was PACKED.
Some quick facts about greek life: MIT currently has 27 fraternities and 6 sororities, with our newest sorority joining the greek scene at MIT just this year (Pi Beta Phi). Around 30% of females and 50% of males are in a sorority or fraternity, respectively, although the statistics are much higher for those of us on West Campus; the majority of my friends are greek. Alums, I wonder, was greek life this big when you were an MIT student?
Anyway – the contestants at King of Hearts were fantastic! To see a list of them and some of their interests, you can check out this website: http://web.mit.edu/alpha-phi/
The judges consisted of a representative from each sorority, as well as our chapter’s president. The guys wow’d them through swimsuit, evening wear, talent, and interview categories. The first runner up was a yo-yo enthusiast (although that doesn’t even begin to explain his talent…) and the winner of KOH was a Nu Delta, who performed a rendition of Beyonce’s Single Ladies music video along with two of his fraternity brothers. I’ve posted the video below – sorry for the terrible videography skills – I was very literally laughing too hard to keep my camera positioned.

Too funny! It’s good to hear about MIT students having a good time – for a good cause with a BIG sense of humor
